What is a residential recording studio?

Unlike traditional recording studios, a residential recording studio provides accommodation in addition to the recording studio. During an artist residency, the recording studio will be privatized during your stay. Artist residencies generally last between 4 and 10 days, but can be much longer depending on the artists' needs (writing lyrics and compositions for a new album, collaborations with different producers and musicians, featuring, pre-production, song writing camps, etc.).

What are the advantages of a residential recording studio?

The idea behind the residential studio is to allow you to devote yourself entirely to your music for a few days, while being in control of your own schedule. You might want to work in the studio in the morning and enjoy the beaches in the afternoon, participate in a yoga session at sunrise or a meditation session on the beach at sunset, learn Muay Thai, or relax by the pool while you write lyrics or work on a new melody. You're free to organize yourself however you like.

Liam Colin, the founder of Sunrise Studio, is available to help and support you in your musical project. Depending on your needs and desires, he can produce, rearrange, record instruments for your songs, mix, and more.

When an artist comes for a residency, all meals are included. Everything is cooked fresh and tailored to each individual's dietary needs. You'll alternate between Thai culinary specialties and homemade meals.

Everything will be done to make you feel comfortable and confident in order to unleash your creative potential and have unforgettable moments.

Liam Colin, the founder of Sunrise Studio, works with you throughout the artist residency.

Liam is a professional musician, producer, and sound engineer. His dream: to make the residential studio experience accessible to all artists, amateur and professional.

In 2022, he and his family moved to Koh Samui, Thailand, found his dream home that could accommodate artists in residence, and built his recording studio there. For perfect acoustics, he enlisted the services of a genius acoustician and sound engineer, Pierre Jacquot (Abbey Road). Together, they designed the studio, and in just three months, it was built and finished. Liam created an optimized space for mixing and recording (completely soundproof live room and control room, custom-made acoustic modules, high-end, high-performance equipment, a wide range of microphones, etc.). During artist residencies, Liam isn't just a sound engineer. He puts all his skills at the service of the artists. He can compose for a singer or producer who isn't a musician, he can arrange or produce for artists who already have a melodic foundation, he can record additional instruments, he can provide vocal coaching before studio recording, and more.

His musical knowledge allows him to better understand what the artist expects, to speak the same language, and to be able to best assist them in the fundamental steps such as sound selection, arrangements, harmonies, etc.

Trained from the age of 9 at the conservatory, he obtained state diplomas in guitar, piano, double bass as well as validations of acquired skills in orchestration, arrangement, notation and composition. Already passionate about sound, he took courses on the physics of sound, psycho-acoustics and mixing methods. From 2003 to 2022, he lived entirely from music. In addition to his activity as a musician, he composes custom music for artists, produces their albums, participates in arrangements if necessary, mixes on demand for TV (sound design) or singles, participates in song writing camps where he acts as a producer (AXEAN festival), organizes music retreats to learn how to produce his own music or mix.

What are the packages for artist residencies at Sunrise Studio?

There are three packages, tailored to the number of songs you'd like to record.

The EP package, lasting 5 days and 4 nights, will allow you to record between 4 and 7 tracks. The ALBUM package, with a stay of 7 days and 6 nights, allows you to record a maximum of 10 tracks.

Finally, the PLATINUM package, lasting 10 days and 9 nights, allows you to record a maximum of 14 songs.

These packages include accommodation in a single room (king-size bed) with private bathroom, full board, access to the studio with a sound engineer, recording of instruments and vocals, artistic support, and coaching.
